When I met Janas some years ago, I hadn't the insight as to the depths of his musical prowess.
Amongst his endeavors, is his role as Electronicist in the neo-psychedelic trio Deep Earth
from Chicago, as well as being a Boat Captain.
This multi-faceted fellow exemplifies his impeccable technique and good taste here on Simpleton Electronics
, unanimously, an impressive
debut release. From start to finish, Simpleton Electronics
seduces the listener with a wide array of well constructed electronic compositions
surely to rival some of the classics. With a unique thumbprint, not unlike Tom Dissevelt or Mort Garson, Janas' work is instantaneously captivating.

Wonderful simple electronic pieces using only a few layers of analog sounds with judicious use of delay that causes the music to literally rhythmically bounce. there is no drum machine here but instead the time is kept by the pulsation's and reverberations of the synth. some of it has an old school kitsch early electronic pop sense because of its production, but mixed with a darker side that makes this much more manic. this is the sort of minimal electronic / industrial blend that people are going crazy over reissuing lately but is contemporary. definitely one of the most outstanding recordings in the whole analog synth revival craze that has been going on for these last few years.
